The Maguari village is situated 3 hours by boat, south of Alter Do Chao, small village east of Santarem, in the State of Para.
The community lives inside a now protected area, the TAPAJOS NATIONAL FOREST.
In 2001, the Rodrigues family contacted ANDA Reflorestamento with a request to help them reforest a 4 hectares degraded land. ANDA decided to allocate them a financial aid to buy out this land.
The variety of trees planted enabled to enrich this land which had been deforested in the eighties. the reforestation project, supervised by the forest engineer, Eder zanetti, in collaboration with the IBAMA, allowed for the plantation of 2400 trees sponsored by donors in Europe and 600 more sponsored by ANDA.
In July 2002, ANDA prepared the seedlings in its Caranazal nursery.
During the month of January 2003, the land was prepared by opening 4 meter wide trenches.
On the 25 of February, the official authorization de reforest was given by the IBAMA. the plantation was done in 3 days with the collaboration of ANDA and the Maguari community.
